Your DNA Story
will help you understand your family DNA matches
DNA Match Research
Your Family Story
Let us help you unravel your DNA results and make sense of your new found family connections.

Within your DNA results there will be distant matches that you have never heard of but there will also be closer relations that are a mystery.
You can invite us to view your DNA results and we can work with you to understand how you relate to some of these genetic matches and piece together a picture of who they are and how they are a part of your family.

We all have a unique history and we can help you explore and uncover your family story, as little or as much as you like.

First Step
We will ask you to

-
outline what you know about your family history, with names, dates and locations.
-
discuss what you would like to find out.
-
decide which DNA matches you want connected .

Step Two
Based on the decisions made in Step One we will go fishing and carry out a FREE search to see whether we can be of service.

All being well, we will then finalise, in writing, your project requirements, with a fixed quotation, you are only charged for results.
There may be additional costs for ordering birth, marriage or death certificates and these will be charged at cost and only obtained with your prior consent in writing.

All you then need to do is invite us to view your DNA results so that we can get started.

Step Three
Understanding your DNA Matches
Having selected the DNA matches for investigation we will first need to create their family trees. Then we use the strength of the chosen DNA matches ( the number of the centimorgans - cM) to identify how and where they most likely connect with your known family by using the rules of consanguinity.
Centimorgans - cM
A centimorgan is a unit of genetic measurement. It is what experts use to describe how much DNA, and the length of specific segments of DNA, you share with your relatives. These shared segments are divided up into centimorgans. The more centimorgans you share with someone, the more closely you are related.
Consanguinity
This is a great tool, as it provides us with the framework of how blood relations connect to each other, and with this we can estimate the location of the given DNA matches. We do this by combining the information given through the strength ( centimorgans ) of the DNA match, their family tree and your family tree.
From here we start to hone in on their likely connection with your known family.
WORD of CAUTION
Investigating DNA matches is a fantastic opportunity for discovery, however the results have the potential to uncover family secrets and in some cases completely rewrite a family history.
You also need to be open to the possibility that the research might create more questions than answers and due to the passing of time there might ultimately be no way of getting all the answers.

Step Four
Delivering Results
Having in Step One established the parameters of your enquiry and in Step Two agreed the specifics, we will then launch Step Three which involves an exhaustive search to establish how the chosen DNA matches connect with you.
Once we have concluded our investigations we will email you your Family Surname Tree (pdf). This will show your direct line descendants and give you an outline of your family tree.

We will also email you a consanguinity chart (pdf) to illustrate how your chosen DNA Matches link to you through your wider family.

These charts do not resemble a family tree and like the Family Surname Tree only include your direct line relations in order to show how you link to your DNA match.

We will also send you any additional certificates purchased with an explanation about their relevance.

Family Surname Tree
Your direct descendants going back up to five generations with dates of their birth, marriage and death, plus occupations and country locations when known.

DNA Match Results
We will email a consanguinity chart (pdf) to illustrate how the selected DNA matches link into you and your wider family.

Certificates
During our research it might have been necessary to order certificates to confirm connections. On completion these will be posted to you.
